William Bristow of Rose Cottage
Robin Garrett has been researching the background behind the names on our village war memorial. He received the following:
Dear Mr. Garrett,
I notice from your website that you are researching into the men remembered on your War Memorial in St. Peter’s Church. My brother, niece and I were in West Tytherley recently as my niece is researching our family history. We were both pleased and sorry to come across the name of William Bristow on the War Memorial. William Bristow (Snr) used to live in the cottage which is now called “Brightside”, next door to the Church. In William Bristow’s day it was called “Rose Cottage”. William Bristow (Snr) was my grandfather’s brother, and William Bristow (Jnr) his son and therefore my great uncle(?). We understand that Wm. Bristow (Snr) used to work on the Singer estate but in what capacity we do not know. We should like to know more about what happened to William Bristow Jnr but so far have no further information.
I hope this is of some use to your research. If I find out anything further before Remembrance Sunday I will let you know. I attach a
photograph taken at St. Peter’s of my brother, Michael Bristow on the right, and my cousin John Bristow on the left, both William’s great nephews.
I wish you success with your research.
With very best wishes,
Yours sincerely,
Anne Jenks (nee Bristow)
