Happy Days
Dear Sir,I lived at West Tytherley for much of my childhood. Before I married my name was Carol Wheeler-Osman. I have many happy memories of West Tytherley.
My best friend was Gail Bowditch. We had many a day off out on our bikes with our sandwiches cycling up to Buckholt and the surrounding areas. That was when you could safely go off and parents had no worries about you. I can remember walking to school and picking wild strawberries from the banks on the way.
Susan, Jackie and myself try to visit West Tytherley at least once a year, just to walk up to 14 North Lane and talk about our happy childhood at what was our home.
Unfortunately we have lost Mum and Dad in the last few years but when they were with us they talked frequently about West Tytherley and how much they liked the village. Mum and Dad were really friendly with Bet and Fred Kelly who we called Auntie and Uncle. They had two daughters named Pam and Margaret. Does anyone know of their whereabouts I wonder? My two sisters were friends with them as children and it would be lovely to meet again.
Thankyou for such a good website. We were so lucky to have been brought up in such a lovely village.
Kind Regards Carol Thornton ( Nee Wheeler - Osman)
Dear Carol,
I have been passed your request by our webmaster, as I have lived in the village since 1955 (I was 60 last October). He seemed to think I could help!!
I can't recall your father but would probably have known him from "the Black" (pub). I think the person you refer to as Michael Snell may actually be Michael Smales. He lived at Little Buckholt Farm just South of Warren Farm. He now lives in the New Forest, where he runs a farm making the famous Lyburn cheese. His email address is: m.smales@hotmail.com.
I hope this info is of help , let me know if I can help further.
Regards
Andy Bowditch
