The Sillence Family
Dear Sir,
I am tracing my family history and found my G/G/Grandfather Frederick Sillence aged 17 on the 1841 census with his father Isral (I guess that should read Israel) in London and what I've now been told by another Sillence researcher is his stepmother Ann and 2 stepbrothers Israel 8 and James 2. Apparently Isral/Israel our common ancestor was, I am told, born in West Tytherley in c.1784 and baptised there on 25th May 1784. We know nothing about his life there or his family until at the age of 26 he marries Margaret Hurst on 22nd April 1810 in London at St.James, Westminster. They had a son William Goodhall Sillence who was baptised at St.Mary's Marylebone and my G/G/Grandfather Frederick was born on the 6th June 1824 in Marylebone. Isral/Israel then married Ann Owens from the Romsey area in April 1830 when he was 45 at St.Martins in the fields Westminster and they had 4 sons - Israel b.1831 and died as an infant,Israel b.1833,Robert b.1836 and James b.1839. Isral/Israel died in Nov.1846 aged 62 and the informant was Fanny who we believe to be his sister. I have also been told that a James Sillence (son of James Silence and Ann Pragnell from West Thyerly/Thyerley) married a Frances Bailey in1799 in West Thyerley/Tytherley and that they had 8 children - William b.1781,Israel b.1784,Fanny b.1786,Thomas b.1788,Ann b. 1790, Sarah b.1792, Hannah b.1795 and Elizabeth b.1800.
As I live up in the peak district I am trying to find out which things are fact and which are fiction through my computer. Can you tell me whether any of the church records or gravestones prove any of the information I have or does anyone know of the Sillences (sometimes written Silence) of West Tytherley. Any help would be much appreciated.
