Hampshire county council has been awarded over £5 million pounds by the government to enable them to drive superfast broadband connections to those rural areas that are others not commercially appealing to BT, Virgin etc. That means US! We do rural!!
We are hoping to ensure that our parish gets its hands on some of that funding to help bring high speed broadband to all homes in the parish.
Superfast broadband means speeds of 40megabits per second. The current fastest residential connections here are under 2megabits per second. Superfast broadband is a must for streaming movies, iPlayer (with HDTV, web addicts, etc). It is also essential for business that wish to host their own websites. Superfast broadband also uploads at the same high speed (currently uploads run at about a quarter of down load speeds). Existing broadband connections are shared. That means that the more people that are using it, the slower it runs. As internet usage grows, line "contention" could start to become a problem. Superfast broadband has no such bottlenecks.

Please spread the word! If your friends and neighbours are interested, then ask them either to email us, talk to Nick at The Black Horse, or simply let one of the parish councillors know.
Long Term Roadworks near Romsey until end-March 2012
Going to Romsey slightly tricky; the B3084 will be closed for 4 months until end-March 2012 whilst they replace the railway bridge between the far end of stanbridge Lane and the T-junction with the A3057 at the Dukes Head. Journeys from Tytherley to Romsey mean using Danes Road from Kents Oak through Shootash to the A27. The other route is Lockerley to the A3057 at the Bear and Ragged Staff via Dunbridge.
