WHAT’S HAPPENING?
PARISH COUNCIL
ELECTIONS:
There will be an election for membership
of the Parish Councils on the 1st May 2003. Anyone wishing to throw
their cap in the ring should contact David Lyon for the necessary nomination papers.
TRAFFIC CALMING:
The buildout onto the road at the junction
by the hall is experimental. Anyone with views on the effectiveness or
otherwise of the alteration should let their views be known to the Council.
Further works are anticipated in the very near future at the northern entrance
to the village.
The see-saw on the recreation ground is
broken at the moment. Until it has been repaired it must not be used.
Volunteers – would any one who would like
to spend a little time each month tidying up the shrub area between the road
and the shop car park, please let David Lyon know. Naturally no payment is
involved.
Thanks are due to Mr and Mrs Galley and Mr
and Mrs King for the work they have done to establish ditches on their land. We
will not know until further heavy rainfall whether the reduction in ground
water is attributable to their efforts or merely coincidental. Lets hope it is
the former.

is well worth a visit.

An application to extend the shop
premises, has been submitted to Test Valley Borough Council. Should the application be successful then
the committee will draw up a business plan, taking into account, the mobility,
affordability and tradability of the project, for presentation to shareholders
and members before committing to the project.
The object of the exercise is to create more retail selling space in
order that the shop may increase the number of product lines, to give customers
a wider and better choice of product.
In the meantime we are grateful for your
current support, and look forward to being of service in the future. Remember if you cannot find what you are
looking for, please tell the shop staff, and we will endeavour to get it for
you, if that is your wish.

You will have read in the Police report of
the reduction in Community Police Officers north of Romsey. Our officers, Chris Day and Andy Preston, now
have an even greater area to cover than before. They need all the help that Neighbourhood Watch and the public
can give them.
Please, everybody, tell your Neighbourhood
Watch co-ordinator or me or the police whenever you see strangers behaving in
an unusual manner, cars which you do
not recognise, cars parked in unusual places, or indeed anything untoward.
Better by far to pick up the ‘phone than
to regret that you didn’t some time later when a crime occurs. The police will never complain about being
alerted unnecessarily. We enjoy a
village comparatively free of crime due in no small part to people being
watchful.
Let us try to keep it that way.

The “Pidgeons” 2002/3 campaign in the Salisbury
and District Football League, Sunday Division 2, is drawing to its
conclusion. With only three more games
to play. The Pidgeons sit in
penultimate spot in the league table, unfortunately from the bottom, not the
top.
Never the less, morale within the squad
remains “HIGH”, due in no small part to the efforts of Jamie the manager, his
small team of assistants, and the numerous “training and team building”
sessions, held throughout the season in the “Black Horse”.
The manager is quoted as saying, that he
regards his first season in charge “as a time of team building and
consolidation”, and is confident that the work done this year, will be evident
in next seasons campaign.
The club’s “Board” have issued a
statement, re-affirming their total support and confidence in their young
manager, and their belief that Jamie can take the club ‘to the top’, and put
silverware in the boardroom (the black horse).
LONG LIVE THE PIDGEONS, may they continue
to fly high, and only “mess” upon the non-believers.
