WHAT’S
HAPPENING?
PARISH
COUNCIL
For your information the Annual General Parish
Council Meeting will be held on 8th May at the village hall, please
try to attend and give us your views on how you think the Parish Council is
performing. Maybe you have ideas on how
you would like to see the village develop. We are also trying to arrange a
guest speaker and as last year there will be complimentary wine, coffee etc.
This year we are hoping to erect a basketball net
with a tarmac area, at the southern end of the recreation ground.
Finally could I remind you that our village shop
needs our support, not just by buying a newspaper. As the saying goes “use it
or lose it”. Don’t forget that a village
shop increases property value and enhances the community.

WEST TYTHERLEY VILLAGE HALL
Our year end is here again
and it is good to report another successful one with an increased number of
events which are steadily improving our funds for maintaining the hall. The activities have included a 10k run,
children’s workshop and the latest a very successful movie night.
The next event is a
dinner/cabaret evening with Madam Galina, a drag ballerina, having recently
returned from a trip entertaining the troops in
Salisbury International
Arts Festival are using the hall for a movie screening in June, tickets are
available through the Festival box office.
Many thanks to the
committee for all their hard work and to all of you for making it such a
successful year.

2006 is looking to
be an exciting year for us as we welcome the long awaited extension to the main
school building and the removal of the old ‘temporary’ classroom, which has
been with us now for nearly 40 years!
The building works will start during the Easter Holiday on 3rd
April. Hopefully by the end of the year
we will be unveiling a ‘nearly’ brand new school. Of course, there will be a lot of confusion
and upheaval during the building process and we would like to ask all our
neighbours to be sympathetic and understanding at this time, please. If you have any major concerns at all though,
please let us know.
Last year we
celebrated the 150th anniversary of our village school and amongst
the various events that were organized was the village show on 25th
June, when the community joined together to have one big celebration. This event was extremely well supported and
it was wonderful to see so many local people joining in the celebrations both
during the afternoon and in the evening too.
The event was such a success that the village wanted to repeat it again
this year and so on 8th July we will be holding the 2006 village
show on the recreation ground, so put this date in your diaries now. The organization of this year’s village show
is being led, once again, by Louise Falcini, who did such a wonderful job last
year. If you can offer help to Louise in
any way, she would love to hear from you.
If you would like a commercial stall or if you are in a band that would
be willing to perform for free!!, she would particularly like to hear from you.
The PTA are always
organizing events to raise money for the benefit of our pupils so please look
out on the school notice board for these. The curry night in March was
well attended and we are hoping to organize a 'School Dinner' and quiz evening
later in the year for families. There
would be a family quiz and a chance to sample food from the school dinner
menu. This event will be early evening
to enable children to bring their parents.
We would like to
thank those people who help in school by listening to children read, helping
with the school grounds or helping with after school clubs, your help is
greatly appreciated. We are always
looking for more helpers, so if you think you could spare a little time, please
let us know.
