WHAT’S HAPPENING IN WEST TYTHERLEY

DECEMBER 2002

PARISH COUNCIL

On average it takes 43 minutes for an ambulance to reach us. There should be more ambulances of course, but there’s not much chance of that.

Lives can be saved by an effective “FIRST RESPONDER SCHEME” Anyone aged 18 to 60 can volunteer, however you do need a car. There is a short training programme. Please give it some serious thought, then contact the Parish Council for more information.

Bunny Mavrogordato has been compiling this newsletter for five years now. She is now looking for someone else to take it on. Anyone of any age with access to word processing facilities can do it. It takes a little time, a few times a year. If you feel you would like to give it a go, then contact either Bunny or Tim.

Traffic calming measures may well be in place by Christmas. There will be an experimental alteration to the junction the hall, making the left turn into Church Lane more of a right angle. PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS, down and exercise greater care as you approach the junction from any direction.

Under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act, there are NO new areas within the parish, upon which walkers have the right to roam.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

KING EDWARDS HALL

The Christmas Eve pantomime this year has been really well supported, with all tickets now sold. We trust that everyone will enjoy the pantomime and have a great time.

Unfortunately we have not been able to organize a New Years Eve party, however the good news is that we are looking forward to an evening with GORDON GILTRAP — Guitarist

Extraordinaire, who will be appearing at the village hall on Saturday 8th FEBRUARY. Keep an eye open for the posters in the new year, and don’t miss the opportunity to see this outstanding artist

A HAPPY XMAS TO ALL

COMMUNITY POLICE OFFICER

At this time of year, please go carefully with security, it is very upsetting if presents are stolen.

There have been a few suspicious vehicles about — please keep your eyes peeled, and if worried, make a note of the registration and report it to the Police.

I am now the Hant’s Liaison Officer” and there have been concerns that hunt saboteurs may be turning their attention to pheasant shoots. Please be extra vigilant.

THE VILLAGE SHOP

The Shop Committee are currently investigating the feasibility of extending the shop, to provide more sales and storage space. If an extension is achievable in planning terms, and affordable, then the committee will seek the views of the shop stakeholders and the villagers in general, before proceeding any further.

As I am sure many of you are already aware, the shop is now open until 7PM Monday to Friday, this is to be trailed for a period of six months to see if YOU, the shop customers a) require it, and b) use it. Please pass on any comments you may have on this initiative to either the shop staff or any committee member.

The shop now has an up to date range of the latest DVD and VIDEO’S for rent at very reasonable prices. So come along and join our Video Club, and you may be the lucky person to win a DVD player in our “Members Only’ Xmas draw.

As is usual at this time of the year, the shop will be offering “EXTRA SPECIAL LINES OF XMAS FARE”. Please ask the shop staff for more details. If there is something you want, and cannot find it on the shelf, then please ask the shop staff and they will do their best to get it for you.

On behalf of the Shop Manageress, staff and management committee, may I take this opportunity to wish ALL of OUR CUSTOMERS, both OLD and NEW, a VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS and PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR.

WEST TYTHERLEY F.C (THE PIDGEONS)

Jamie Bowditch, our new player manager, and the Pidgeons have had a very traumatic and eventful start to the season. As if moving up to a higher league, was not in itself a big enough challenge, non- availability of players has meant that the manager and his team have struggled in the early season games. However, I am glad to report that the team appear to have turned the corner and are at last starting to win games and climb the league. We currently stand at 9th in Division Two of the Salisbury and District Sunday League. We are all sure that this is just the beginning of a meteoric rise up the table.
