WHAT’S HAPPENING?

WEST TYTHERLEY JULY 2003

PARISH COUNCIL

As you may or may not have realised, on May 1st we had an uncontested election of Parish Councillors. Sadly, Barry Whitlock and Sabrina Girling decided to stand down as councillors and we would like to express our grateful thanks to them for their dedicated hard work and efforts during their term of office. I am please to say though, that we have a new councillor namely one Linda Bowditch who I am sure will become an asset to us. On the 12th May we had our Parish & annual general meeting. It was well advertised but sadly only four members of the public turned up, I can only assume that we must be doing the right thing.

As you may have noticed, the flood prevention measures are now in full flow! And we can only wait in anticipation for the results when the winter rains arrive. For your further info we have entered the Calor Gas Community competition, which is being judged later this month. Finally, if you are unable to attend the Parish Councillor meetings but have a problem that we can help you with, please don’t hesitate to contact one of us.

Andy Bowditch, Chairman

Would anyone interested in working part-time on either a paid/voluntary basis, please contact the shop manager Claire Burton.

WEST TYTHERLEY C OF E PRIMARY SCHOOL

The summer term is always the busiest term of the year and this year is no exception.  A glance at the list of dates on our newsletter (which is accessible to all, thanks to the West Tytherley village website) will show the many activities that the pupils are involved with, a few of which are the Solar Car Challenge, Rocket Day at Test Valley, Citizens Day in Basingstoke, visit to the Hillier Gardens, Emergency Services Panto in Southampton, a service for our Year 6 leavers in Winchester Cathedral and an amazing multi-cultural week involving African ceramics, Indian dancing and Caribbean music, which culminates in the School’s Summer BBQ on Friday 20th June at 6 p.m., which has a Caribbean theme and is being opened by Tiff Needell, racing driver.

On 12th July the PTA promise us a wonderful evening at The Auction of Promises, a Black Tie event, where a sumptuous spread will be followed by an auction of a long and varied list of promises.  Tickets are available from the school office or the village shop.

We are entered in the Test Valley in Bloom competition (last year we tied first place) and we are also involved with the Parish Council’s entry into the Calor Gas Community competition.  The second week in June saw the school being inspected by Ofsted and although we have not had the report yet, the initial signs are that it will be good.

WEST TYTHERLEY FOOTBALL CLUB

The football club will be holding a fun day for all the family on Saturday 9th August, between the hours of 2pm and 6pm on the recreation field. There will be stalls, and fun events for all the family, refreshments and licience bar applied for. Funds are required to swell the offers of the club in order that our manager may become pro-active in the transfer market. We believe that with David Beckham now available, he has aspirations of a big summer signing? So please come along and support your local football club. “WE NEED YOUR MONEY”.
