WHAT’S HAPPENING?

WEST TYTHERLEY JULY 2006

PARISH COUNCIL

Due to the resignation of one of our Parish Councillors, there is now a vacancy. We did advertise the relevant information on Parish Council notice boards and as the required number of parishioners didn’t request an election we can now co-opt for this vacancy. We would prefer someone from the West Tytherley part of West Dean and are liaising with the chairman of West Dean as I write this.

At our meeting on the 12 June we were informed that the takings at the shop are declining so I would urge you once again to support it as much as you can. We all know Tescos is cheaper, but the village without a shop would be a tragic loss to the community, be warned.

I was recently told that West Dean had a village clean up day. If anyone is interested in a similar event for Tytherley, please contact Liz Dowding!

Finally as the summer is at last with us, could I suggest once again that it would be nice to sit in our gardens on a Sunday without the constant drone of garden machinery!!

VILLAGE SHOP

The A.G.M. has unfortunately been postponed until late July.

Our accountant, who has held the position without a fee for many years, has increased his workload and our accounts are not yet to hand. A new accountant has been appointed and the date of the A.G.M. will be set and publicised as soon as the accounts are received. We do hope the meeting will be well attended – these are critical times for our little shop.

The shop belongs to the community. It aims to give a service to the community. It needs the tangible support of the community. Please buy from the shop as much and as often as you can.

BLACK HORSE INN

Here we are again, now approaching our fourth year at the end of July – Summer events in the area are now in full swing. We held our first BB Day (Barbeque/Band) on Bank Holiday Monday, which proved a great success are therefore, planning another couple of similar days on Sunday 30th July, and also Bank Holiday the 28th August.

We are now prepared for all weathers with the new covered area on the Patio so pop along for a bite and a pint despite the weather. We now have  real ales from local breweries and a good selection of wines for you to try, and if you are stuck for a present idea, try a Black Horse Gift Voucher.

The Annual Quittles Evening will be held on Sat. 19th August (Quiz/Skittles/Buffet) so come along & register your teams now. The skittle alley is available for your private parties & family get togethers etc.

The veg competitions are being held Aug/Sept with The Percy’s Runner Beans, Dot’s Sunflowers and the Unusual Veg Competitions open to all.

Thank you once again for all those who support the village pub – and a welcome to those who have not tried us yet. Enjoy your summer – hope to see you soon.
