WEST TYTHERLEY VILLAGE NEWSLETTER

JULY 2007

PARISH COUNCIL

As you probably are aware the Parish Council elections were held on 3rd May but as we had the correct number of candidates standing for West Tytherley & Frenchmoor, there was no need for an election in our Parish. We have however two new councillors, Anthony Mavrogordato & Liz Dowding. We wish them well in their new role.

As you may have heard in the early hours of 29th May the village school along with the village hall and the phone box were vandalised, and a road sign at North Lane was pulled out and left in the middle of the road. This matter is now in the hands of the police. Also on the same night a group were camping in the recreation ground and a fire was lit near the play area, this is NOT  permitted by the Parish Council due to insurance reasons.

The police have recently notified us about a scam that is currently going on in our area.  Thieves posing as water board workers are using fluster tactics to alarm householders into vacating their homes immediately while they pretend to turn off the water but actually burgle their homes. They specifically target the elderly. The police advise you not to let these people into your home and to phone the police if they are insisting on entry.

WEST TYTHERLEY VILLAGE HALL

Thanks to everybody who came to the Broadway to Berlin cabaret evening which was so successful that their new show - to be premiered at the next Edinburgh festival - has been booked for next year. The treasure hunt was great fun and the weather was on our side so the BBQ was much enjoyed and again raised funds for the upkeep of the village hall.

Our applications for grants have been successful from Hampshire County Council, Test Valley Council and the Parish Council. The grants will be used to renew the toilets to include disabled facilities, an additional emergency exit for the disabled and to have the hall redecorated. For the outside redecoration we shall have the same colours as the school and looking to the future we hope to have the hedge removed and replaced with the same fence as the school, to give a uniformed look to part of the village.

NEXT EVENT -  10K Run 23rd September. Let’s see all those runners signing up. Check out the web site for entry forms.

CHARITY….

….announce the arrival of a new textile bank

With agreement from the committee and the parish council, a yellow textile recycling bank has been placed at the King Edwards Village Hall to help raise funds for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance due to be operational from 1st July 2007. The Air Ambulance Charity relies entirely on voluntary donations, and for this vital service to succeed, it needs to raise more than £65,000 every month.

Each year in the UK we throw away an estimated 1 million tonnes of textiles of which the vast majority could be reused or recycled. Every week we throw away an estimated two million pairs of shoes which could be worn by someone else. By donating your unwanted, clothes, shoes and household textiles, you will be helping to sustain this life-saving service, and at the same time doing your bit for the environment by diverting waste from landfill. H&IOWAA welcome any clean clothing in bags, paired shoes, all household textiles, including blankets, towels, duvets and pillows.

To celebrate the launch of the Air Ambulance Service, the people of Hampshire are cordially invited to an open day at Thruxton Race Circuit (near Andover) on the 21st August 2007 between 11am and 3pm. There will be an opportunity to view the helicopter and meet the crew. There will also be live music and numerous demonstrations and displays by the Hampshire Vehicle Extrication Team, Andover Fire Service, the Hampshire Dog Handling Unit, the Road Safety Unit, the Road Policing Unit and the Ambulance Service. Also available will be 4 x 4 rides and the Mazda Experience around the Thruxton Race Circuit, at specially reduced rates.

2007 also sees the launch of mobile phone and inkjet cartridge recycling schemes. Please visit www.bagitup.org.uk to see how you can help recycle for H&IOWAA. To learn more about the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance please visit: www.hampshireandiowairambulance.org.uk
