WHAT’S HAPPENING?

WEST TYTHERLEY OCTOBER 2005

PARISH COUNCIL

At our July meeting, Neville Whitely informed us that Test Valley Borough Council (T.V.B.C.) were to consider changes to our waste collection service to help meet Government re-cycling targets. We would, he told us, be consulted at various stages. However, this has not happened and we have now heard that it has been agreed by the Executive Committee at T.V.B.C that trials on a bi-weekly collection will begin next year.

On this subject it has been brought to our attention that some person or persons are dumping their green garden waste onto the recreation ground at the rear of Thorngate, PLEASE DON’T.

Concern has been expressed by some residents of children cycling and skateboarding across the road at the junction of Beales Court and Rectory Hill. Could the parents of those children please warn them of the dangers of this, we do have a large recreation ground!

Finally with reference to the mobile home dumped at the side of the road at Frenchmoor. Since May we have been informed that civil action is being considered by Hampshire’s legal department. I have also asked Michael Woodhall H.C.C to help, we await the outcome with interest.

WEST TYTHERLEY C OF E PRIMARY SCHOOL

A very big welcome to everyone, to familiar faces from last year and to all the new ones.  We especially welcome Mrs Chris Lovelock who has joined us this term.  Mrs Lovelock was previously working in a school office in Wilton and we are very pleased to have her with us.  Mrs Lovelock will be working on Wednesdays and Fridays and Mrs Rimmington will be unavailable on these days. Also welcome back to Mrs Terri Budden who will be teaching in class 2 on Thursdays and Fridays.  Mrs Budden has taught in the school before and is a very welcome familiar face.

The new school dinner menu is proving  popular with the pupils and staff alike.  All the food is prepared from scratch by Mrs Goulding and cooked on-site.  There is no pre-packaged food on the menu at all now.  We have definitely noticed the improvement and would encourage pupils to try a meal soon.

This year we have decided to provide free fruit to all our children.  We are hoping that the PTA will agree to fund some or all of the cost of this, amounting to £600 for the year.  This is to show our continuing commitment to being a healthy school.  The fruit will be given out at morning break.  If your child does not want a piece of fruit (and believe it or not, some children don’t) please provide a healthy snack instead, e.g. dried fruit, yoghurt, cereal bar, sandwich – no crisps or chocolate please.

May we remind parents that children should not arrive at school until 8.45 a.m.  From this time there is an adult on duty in the playground until 8.55 when the children go to their class for the register. School ends at 3.15 p.m.  Pupils being collected will be seen out of the gate at the bottom of the slope by a member of staff – please could parents wait inside the gate at the office end of the building. Pupils going home on the bus will be seen onto the bus by Mrs King and they exit through the other gate.

There is not a lot of room on the pavements outside of school, which is why we ask you to wait inside the gate where it is safer for you and the children.  Thank you.
