WEST TYTHERLEY VILLAGE NEWSLETTER

OCTOBER 2007

PARISH COUNCIL

For your information the Council have recently approved a refurbishment of the pavilion on the recreation ground which is now almost complete with only the showers (subject to quotes) left to complete.

The majority of the funding for this came from monies left over from the grants we received from Test Valley borough Council and the lottery commission which we applied for earlier this year, plus the income we get from after school football training on the rec.

On a slightly different note at our Parish Council meeting on the 10th of September a member of the public raised a point regarding bonfires and whether I could raise the subject. I have to admit that in the past I have been guilty of upsetting my neighbours (sorry Sandra)!!

But probably if we just check which way the wind is blowing first it may help and maybe light it at night, please note this is only a suggestion.

Finally Neville Whiteley our Ward Councillor for Test Valley Borough Council told us that the Council are looking into the possibility of "chipping" our black rubbish bins so they can charge according to the weight of rubbish we put in them, BE WARNED.

WEST TYTHERLEY VILLAGE HALL

The good news is that refurbishment of the village hall is just about complete.  I would like to thank everybody who has so generously given us donations towards this work and also a big thank you to the committee and their partners for all the ‘behind the scenes’ jobs that they did.  Fantastic team work.

Autumn fund raising events have already kicked off successfully with the 10K run and a Forest Forge production.  One of the best we’ve seen.

This month is the Harvest Supper, 13th, bring a group of friends and make up a table of 8 for an enjoyable 3 course meal.

More good news, the Forest Forge Christmas Pantomime has now been booked for Sunday afternoon 23rd December.

WEST TYTHERLEY CE PRIMARY SCHOOL

Another school year has begun and we have welcomed 6 new pupils into our Reception Class as well as 5 more children into other year groups who have joined us from other local schools.  We also have a new part-time teacher, Sarah Bidois and we look forward to another very successful year at West Tytherley.

The new building was opened officially in the summer and we were delighted to see so many people come along to help us celebrate the occasion.  If you were unable to attend at that time but would still like to look around our beautiful new school, please let us know and we can arrange for you to visit.

We were saddened at the beginning of term to learn of the passing away of Miss Pragnell at the age of 93.  Many of us have treasured memories of past times at West Tytherley School and of Miss Pragnell who taught here from 1944 until 1979.  Her memorial service in St. Peter’s church was well attended and much reminiscing took place in the Black Horse afterwards.
